Chaplaincy Fund
Development of a Department Chaplaincy Fund. This is an earmarked fund setup to help the most vulnerable members of our community when Des Moines Police Officers come across a situation requiring immediate intervention. Des Moines Waterland Festival
The Des Moines Police Foundation held a booth in the Des Moines Waterfront Farmer's Market celebrating our community. A Disneyland Vacation was raffled off which raise $1,500 for the Foundation's General Fund, as well as a charity bake sale which raised a total of $258 towards our Shop With a Cop event on December 16th. Safe Call Now Training Session
In collaboration with the Des Moines Waterfront Farmer's Market, and South King Fire Aid Fund, the Des Moines Police Foundation will be sponsoring Emotional Body Armor For First Responders training this fall. Because of this support, our local first responders will be able to attend this potentially life saving training at no charge to them or their agency.
Reading Buddies Program at Midway Elementary
In 2015 The Des Moines Police Foundation Board of Directors approved a $200 grant to help fund a joint community building project between the Des Moines Police Department, Wesley Homes Resident Volunteers, and Midway Elementary School. The goal of the program is to pair up volunteers with local school children and provide weekly reading time and mentorship.
